Frequently Asked Questions
- What happens in the first session?
- The first session is a gentle space for us to get to know each other. You can share what’s bringing you to counselling, ask questions, and get a feel for how I work. There’s no pressure to open up more than you feel ready to, this is your space, and we go at your pace. You’re welcome to come with notes or just turn up as you are. Before that, I offer a free 15-minute intro call so you can see if I feel like the right fit for you.
- What does a typical session look like?
- Each session lasts 50 minutes and is guided by what you bring. I won’t set an agenda or ask you to complete worksheets, instead, I’ll listen deeply, reflect gently, and support you to explore what’s important to you. Sometimes it’s emotional, sometimes it’s quiet, sometimes it’s messy, and all of that is welcome.
- How many sessions will I need?
- That’s completely up to you. Some people come for a short time to work through something specific; others choose to stay longer-term. You’re not locked in, we’ll review things regularly together and you can stop at any time.
- Is counselling confidential?
- Yes — what you share in our sessions stays between us. There are a few exceptions where I may need to break confidentiality (such as if you or someone else is at serious risk of harm), but I will always try to talk this through with you first wherever possible.
- I’m a registered member of the National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society (NCPS) and work to their ethical standards, which include confidentiality, safeguarding, and respectful practice.
- Do you offer online counselling?
- Yes, I offer sessions in person, walk & talk and online via Teams/WhatsApp/Zoom. You can choose what suits you best, and you’re welcome to switch between them as needed.
- How much does it cost?
- Initial 20-minute call: Free
- Individual counselling session (50 mins): £50
- Concessions may be available — feel free to ask.
- Payment is usually made by bank transfer before each session. I’ll share the details once we agree to work together.
- Where are you based?
- I work Christchurch, Poole, Bournemouth, New Forest and Southampton. If you’re attending in person, I’ll send full details when we book your session.
- What issues do you work with?
- I support clients with a wide range of challenges including:
- Anxiety and panic
- Stress and burnout
- Grief and loss
- Trauma and overwhelm
- Low self-worth and people-pleasing
- Identity questions
- Neurodiversity (including ADHD and sensory needs)
- Feeling stuck or disconnected from yourself
- You don’t need a diagnosis or a clear label to come to counselling. If something’s bothering you, we can talk about it.
- What if I’m not sure counselling is for me?
- That’s okay, lots of people feel unsure. You don’t need to commit to anything straight away. That’s why I offer a free 15-minute call so you can get a feel for what it’s like to talk with me and decide from there.
